Very cheng cheng (clear soup) and not adding MSG (if any will not be a lot) as after eating the porridge – you do not feel very thirsty.  The batang fish is very fresh.  The only regret is the tipo (deep fried sole fish) is not given enough and making the porridge a bit bland.  I like to have more condiment (fried garlic / tipo etc) to be added to have more shiok taste.  But if like to have real cheng cheng porridge, this stall is good.  $5 / $8.  The fishes are not very generous – probably the rental is killing them (which I can understand).

The fish porridge stall is located at No 37 Newton Circle Food Centre.  There are few fish porridge Teowchew style in the same food centre.  Song Kee is most generous in the fish slice.  They use very fresh batang fish and cut the fish only in the morning.

I find that the soup is too “sweet” to my liking and I prefer to have my teochew porridge to have added some ti po.  Each bowl is about $4.50 is on high side.  However, given that the stall is located at Newton Circle and they are quite generous in the fish slice, it is still worthwhile to give it a try.
