I went to blk 127 Lor 1 Toa Payoh market quite frequently for their famous teochew pao and the carrot cake.  Tried a few times of the meepok stall opposite the teochew pao and have given up as the noodles are really terrible.  Each time was attracted by the stall because of the long queue which I thought may be the stall has improved.  Never improved.

So one weekend, saw this Ah Piew mee pok stall with very short queue (in fact my first time there was no queue).  I am a risk taker (when come to meepok) and give it a try.  Not bad!  The stall owner is not very old.  He is so focusing on tossing the meepok and from the way he cook, I can guess the noodle should be fine.  Yes ! The meepok is well cooked – QQ and springy.  The chili is something worth mentioning here.  Not very spicy and come with a bit of sweetness.  Blended very well with the well cooked QQ meepok.  I have never tried this type of chili for a long time (used to have this in the young days).  It reminded me of my primary school tuckshop meepok and that was  XXX years ago (hahaha – will not reveal my age here).

Only weakness is the fishball – quite big but not Q enough.  Hope he can change the supply of the fishball.

Prepare to wait for at least 30 minutes for this stall.  The uncle cooking the noodle is extremely slow, he will take his time to cook and ignore the queue.  In the way which is good as he just ensuring the quality of the noodles are in top condition.  That is why long queue is formed.  ( 3 customers in front of me have given up and left after 15 minutes wait).

Try the Signature noodles which is $5 where the soup is separately cooked (like 小碗面) that comes with meat ball, lean pork, minced meat, fried fish ball, teochew dumpling, pig liver, seaweed, egg and added few pieces of dried sole fish (ti po).  I do not have the luck as just before my turn, the stall helper stall added more soup (water) to the boiling soup and immediately you can taste the soup is fairly diluted.   If you go for the $8 / bowl, you will get additional fish mall on top of the above mentioned ingredients.  They also sell the basic bak cho mee which is $3.50 (only lean meat and mince pork).

Soup is tasty – I am sure it will be better if the helper did not add additional soup just before my turn.

The braised mushroom is well seasoned.  Chili, lard, vinegar – well mixed with the noodles which are properly and slowly cooked by the uncle with perfect timing.

I saw the uncle and the helpers wearing Fei Xiong (肥雄)uniform – I guess Ding Ji must be from the same Fei Xiong fishball group.
