The first thing attracted me by this stall is their hand made meat ball which were displayed prominently on the stall.  It looks so fresh and yummy that you just cant resist but to join the queue wanted to try out if it is tasted as good as it looks.  Yes, it is.  The meat ball is very well done soft but not mushy, generous of fish paste and not too much flour.  The home made fishball is very good too.  I will certainly come back here to ta pao these 2 items for my reunion steamboat dinner.

Well the noodle as you can see from the pictures are not very well cook (or rather bit over cook and become soggy).  I prefer the meepok to be a bit more kiew kiew.  They added too much water to the mix of the ingredient too.  A good kungfu skilled owner will ensure the noodles and the ingredient (water especially) are just well mix – not too watery or too dry.  The soup is very tasty though probably extracted from the freshly made meat ball and the fishball.  Prepare to queue and eat under the extremely hot and noisy ambience (remember to use your tissue paper to chop the seats 🙂

Home made fishball which are very bouncy and can taste it different from those get from the factory.  The meepok is quite well cook but unfortunately the chili is nothing special and not spicy enough.  It is always not easy to have the perfect Meepok (well cooked noodle, specially made chili, good vinegar, home made fishball/fish glue, tasty soup, mix with freshly fried lard and ti po).  Can consider to order the fishball for steamboat though.

This stall is too famous that I need not write too much as they receive so many food reviews.  I decided to give it a try despite every time I skip the stall due to the long queue.

You can’t choose the stuff as it is standard.  The dried beehoon will only add the ikan bilis to go with the soup that fill with fishball tau kee, tau pok and beancurd.  Overall, I quite like the food as it is quite cheng cheng (ie not oily).  Soup is very nice too and they are very generous in giving the ikan bilis (it will be nice if they can remove the heads).  Try their fried fish cake which is freshly made.

One of my favourite Hokkien Mee stalls.  The stall owner use the prawns with very firm texture.  Added with fresh sotong and slices of pork belly.  Yummy.

The noodles are fried with very tasty stock and you have to be patient as the stall owner does not compromise by rushing to complete a set of the noodles.  He lets the noodles slowly cook with the prawn stock and if you don’t eat the “kee” smell as each of the noodles are well covered by the stock.  He uses the thin beehoon too (I never like those using the thick laksa beehoon).  The helpers there are all very friendly and the queuing system is fantastic.

Don’t forget to ask for more balachan chili.

The super long queue attracted me to try this stall.  Ordered both soup and dried mee kia.  Disappointed with the soup as the soup is the most important thing for a good prawn noodles.  The taste is rather bland and only taste is very salty.  The mee kia passable.  Chilies are ok but nothing great to shout about.  Overall quite disappointed to queue for such a long time but the quality of the food does not measure up.  This hawker centre is very unique.  Almost 60% of the stall you need to queue for the food.  But 60% of the time you are disappointed with the standard of the food.

Old school type wonton noodles.  Char Siew (bit too lean) and wonton pretty alright.  Noodles are tardy and mixing not enough eggs.  Chili is nothing spectacular.  Overall it is quite disappointing despite having to queue for a while.

Kim Keat Hokkien Mee 金吉福建面

Located in the coffee shop as the famous Ocean curry rice.  The uniqueness of this stall are (a) they use claypot to hold the noodles if you order min. $10 which is good for 2 pax (b) besides the usual pork belly slice, sotong and shrimp they add Xiao Ba (燒肉) and clams.

IMG_8642

IMG_8643

Service very fast and the claypot maintain good temperatures and the noodles remain hot for good 15 – 20 mins.

IMG_8646

The noodles is more of the wet (a lot stock) type.

IMG_8647IMG_8644

The Xiao Ba added to the noodles is quite tasty.  Chili is good (remember to ask for more).
