Adam Fishball Noodle

Adam Fishball Noodle

IMG_2780

Adam Fishball Noodle is famous for its Mee pok.  The stall owner is a middle aged gentleman who speak good English and very polite and friendly.  He learnt the trade from his parents who used to run a roadside fishball noodles stall in the early days.

The noodles are quite spingy that is due to the owner’s skill who get the water temperature and the timing perfectly right.  Please remember to ask for more chili as the normal order tend to me sweet than hot spicy as he has added black soy suace (sweet type).  You hardly find any excess water / gravy in the noodles as it was cooked with perfect mixture of water, oil and chili sauce.

Fishball is a disappointment.  I believe they are supplied by the factory and is no different from what you can get from the market.  The flsh glue (her kiow) is better than the fishball.

Fuzhou Oyster Cake

Poh Hwa Fuzhou Oyster Cake

IMG_2774

You could hardly find many fried Fuzhou Oyster Cake in Singapore.  There is one popular stall at Maxwell Road hawker centre.  This stall used to be at the coffee shop at the juntion of Kitcherner Road and Jalan Besar Road.  They have shifted to this Coffee Shop for more than 2 years.  It used to more generous in the ingredient.  I think the inflation over the years have resulted in the shrinking in the ingredients.  The price has increased from $1.20 to now $1.40 per piece.  Add shrimp $1.80 / pc.

Two versions – one with peanut the other one is with ikan billis.

Best is to eat on the spot (or just fried by the aunty) – ta pao will not be nice.

Da Jie Wonton Mee

Da Jie Wonton Mee

IMG_2773IMG_2763

I learnt that this stall is famous for braised chicken feet and not really for the wonton char siew noodles.  As I was alone and would only order the Wonton mee to try.

IMG_2767

The char siew and wonton are really not good enough.

IMG_2768

The noodles is better than most of the stalls you find in the hawker centres as I think they have the supply of the noodles with more eggs (higher grade noodles).   The black sauce they used is quite 香 (delicious) plus lar po (fried lard) – a good mix with the noodles.  I prefer to have the noodles without chili but only the black sauce.

IMG_2769

The 料 (ingredients) is quite good though.  For a plate of S$3, you get 2 boiled woton, 4 fried wonton and they are quite generous in their char siew too.  Not many stalls offer so much 料 these days !

IMG_2771

I will try the chicken feet in my next visit – which is their specialties.

Hainanese Style Hokkien Fried Prawn Noodles

Hainan Hokkien Fried Prawn Noodles

This stall has been around in Singapore for more than 70 years.  I was told by my uncle that the stall started a hawker cart near Beach Road.  But moved to Golden Mile Hawker centre in the 70s.  It started by a Hainanese uncle and he has created a receipe that is diffrent from other stall.

This Hokkien mee is dry version.  It is diffrent from other stalls which serve with thick gravy.  You hardly find any gravy but the noddle is fried with good prawn stalk.  If you like dry version, this stall is the best in town.

IMG_2730

The chilli is very siok…remember to ask for more.

Traditional Fuzhou Fishball

Seow Choon Hua Restaurant (off Beach Road)

IMG_2701

This fuzhou fishball stall has been around in Singapore for more than 50 years.  My late father used to buy from this stall when he was young and that time a bowl of Fuzhou fishall ball sold at $0.30.  Now, a set of noodles with fuzhou fishball costs $4.50.

IMG_2700IMG_2697

The noodles is not really fatastic. It comes with fishcake, slices of char siew and chicken and some intestines.

IMG_2698

The soup is their highlights with home made fuzhou fishballl, fishball, Yen qiao (home made fuzhou meat dumpling) fish glue (her kiow), wonton and shrimp dumpling.  Of all. the fuzhou fishball is the best.  Indeed, this is the best you can get in Spore IMO.

IMG_2699

The coffee shop displayed many old sign boards.  Luch time, on weekdays,  is packed with customers so be prepared to queue and the coffee shop is quite stuffy and hot.

I will normally ta pao cold fuzhou fishball during CNY as steamboat ingredients (25 pcs = S$10).

The noodles are not high quality and very normal.  Good thing is that it is not very oily.  Char Siew very normal.  The only good thing about this stall of the 4 main ingredient to make good wonton noodles (noodles / Chillie / Char Siew / Wonton) is the wonton is not bad.

IMG_2645

Overall, there are so many good stalls in Pek Kio HC and it explains why this stall is not very popular as there are so many other good options you could choose from this HC.

Unless you are very sick of other choices, you may try this stall.  (Other good food  at Pek Kio: Prawn noodles, fish soup, fried rice/ Hor Fun, Chee Cheong Fun, Yong Tau Foo, Fried Hokkien Noodles).  Most of the stalls are relocated from the old Farrer Road Hawker Centre.

The noodle is very nice with very good texture. It is very different from the nornal stall and I beilieve the noodle is speciallyorder from the factory with added eggs so that the noodle texture is so much better than the rest.

IMG_2615

The char siew and wonton are very normal. The char siew (like most of other stalls in Spore) is nothing special and using lean meat with no “CHAR” feel. The wonton also very disppointed with very blend taste.

Suprisingly, they cook very good braised chicken feet with very good mixture of herds and the timing of the cooking is perfect. I normally order this dish as a sepeate side dish so that the chicken feet gravy will not mix with the noodles.

IMG_2614

Overall, I think the stall sell very good noodles and if you would order a seperate chicken feet to go with the noodles will be very nice !
